Fun Scale Question??

Do the reg numbers in your picture need to match your model. The rulebook states you only need to show the model was actually full scale to receive points? I'm just alittle confused. Thanks, ERIK

Hi Erik,
The reg numbers on your model do not need to match those on the picture you provide as documentation in the Fun Scale class. Actually the color and trim on the model are not required to match the picture for Fun Scale. If your model is a P-47 Thunderbolt and your picture shows a P-47 Thunderbolt (in any paint scheme and markings), you get the 5 points.

That depends on the Judge... I have seen it go both ways... The rule states this:
"2. Static Judging: Static score will be zero (0) or five (5). Five (5) static points will be awarded to contestants who
show proof that a full size aircraft of this type, and in this general paint/markings scheme, did exist
. A single sheet (plastic kit box, photo, profile painting, etc.) is sufficient proof, if other written documentation of color is provided for black and white photo. Contestant-prepared drawings of a photo of the model itself is not acceptable. If no proof of existence is shown, no static points will be awarded."
So it seems it is how literal the judge interprets the rule. One way to check is to ask the CD before the contest. That way you will know for sure how they are going to mark it.

Now that you are good and confused, Erik, let me try to sort this rule business out for you.
Mitch has quoted you the rule for AMA 520 Fun Scale . If the contest you are planning to attend is using the rules of the Academy of Model Aeronautics for their event 520 Radio Control Fun Scale class, then Mitch is correct.
If the contest you are planning to attend is using the US ScaleMasters rules for the Fun Scale class, then the rules are a bit less formal. The USSMA rules for Fun Scale read as follows:
5. Fun Scale: This category is available at Regional Qualifiers only. To obtain a “static” score a fun scale contestant would provide some form of documentation proving that his/her entry is an example of a full size man carrying aircraft. Documented evidence will automatically score 5 points for static without any judging of the subject aircraft. If there is no documentation, the static score will be zero. Any scale or semi-scale aircraft is eligible for competition including ARF’s.
The only requirement is that the aircraft must resemble an actual full size man-carrying airplane.
The contestant will be required to use the flight sheet utilized by Expert, Team and Open class and shall be subject to flight judging as if they were flying in those classes.
Since you posted your question in the USSMA information section, I just assumed you were looking for the USSMA rule in that regard. I hope that clears things up.
