The models are built over many hundreds of hours with painstaking attention to detail. They will be judged by how closely they match original design documentation. Static competition and judging, while a significant aspect of the competition is generally not quite as interesting to the general public as is the flying competition/judging. Each model will be flown several times; pilots will be judged by how closely their models mirror the flying characteristics of their full-size brethren. Pilot skill and model performance will both be on display. Usually, there will be from three to four models flying at any one time. Static and flying scores will be combined using an established formula to determine each competitor’s final placing in each of the four classes; Expert, Team, Advanced and Open.
